Hello!

Today I wanted to talk about how to be positive! We all have bad days and life can sometimes really bring us down, but everyone has the conscious choice to be happy by just adopting a more positive outlook (disclaimer: I obviously don't mean people with serious mental health problems, such as depression). I have been thinking a lot lately about how to stay positive no matter what. I've realised that sometimes it's okay to be sad, sometimes things are difficult and really hard to deal with, but those feelings aren't going to last forever. Here are some little ways to try and be a bit more positive :)
- Get out of the house! Even if you just walk around the block, it's guaranteed to make you feel so much better. Fresh air and time to clear your head will instantly make things seem a lot more bearable than if you sit alone in your room over-thinking every little thing that's bothering you. Go to the park, walk to a friends house, go somewhere with nice scenery, just get out of your bedroom!
- Listen to music! Don't underestimate the power of music; a good song with a positive message can make a world of difference to your mood. A few of my personal favourites are: I Really Don't Care ~ Demi Lovato ft. Cher Lloyd // Paint the Town Green ~ The Script // Gold Rush ~ Ed Sheeran // Dance With me Tonight ~ Olly Murs // Budapest ~ George Ezra // On Top of the World ~ Imagine Dragons
- Spend time with friends! I'm very lucky to have such a wonderful group of friends, both at uni and back home. No matter what's going on in my life, I can always count on my friends to make me laugh until my sides hurt. If you're not as lucky, go out and find a group of people who make you feel like you're on top of the world - you deserve friends who you can count on to always cheer you up!
- Keep your room tidy! This might seem like a strange one, but I know that when my room is messy, I feel stressed and frustrated, whereas when it's tidy, I feel much better. It might seem like a chore to keep your room tidy, but just dedicate one day a week to properly cleaning it, then just make a conscious effort not to mess it up through the week. Take pride in your room, it will honestly lift your mood so much.
- Smile! It's such a simple thing, but something people forget to do so often. Just take a second each day to smile and I promise you will instantly feel much happier. Go on, smile!
- Eat healthy! This is something that I have just recently started making a real effort with, I have always ate a relatively balanced diet, but I've decided to start being more conscious of what I'm eating and replace any unhealthy, fatty, sugary foods with fruit and vegetables. I am a real believer in 'healthy body, healthy mind' - be mindful of what you are putting into your body and your mood will improve significantly.
- Exercise! When you exercise, the brain releases chemicals which make you feel happier and less stressed. So just 20 minutes of walking can have a surprising effect on how you are feeling, you don't have to be hitting the gym every day, just a little exercise can make all the difference.
- Treat yourself! I am guilty of turning to retail therapy when I'm not feeling great, which may have a positive effect on my mood, but definitely has a negative effect on my bank account. If you can afford a shopping trip, do it! If you're a penniless student, like myself, then window shopping can be just as effective!
- Do something you love! Whether it's watching cheesy movies, giving yourself a facial/manicure/pedicure, phoning your best friend, or cooking yourself your favourite meal, just do it! If you're feeling down, stop at nothing to make yourself feel better.
- Remember, you deserve to be happy!! Your health and happiness are the most important thing in the world, remember that. Life's too short to be anything other than completely and utterly happy.
What do you do to make yourself feel better when you're in a bad mood?
Wishing you all so much happiness in everything you do :)
Much love
Megan
