Film Review: The Theory of Everything

Hello lovelies!

Today I wanted to review the film The Theory of Everything. I recently saw this at the cinema and was absolutely blown away by the sheer talent of Eddie Redmayne in his portrayal of Stephen Hawking.

Before watching this film, I didn't know an awful lot about Stephen Hawking, other than he is a very intelligent man who unfortunately suffers with motor neurone disease. However, Eddie Redmayne shows how an intelligent, energetic, enthusiastic man studying a phD at Cambridge Univeristy deteriorated due to a disease which was supposed to take his life only two years after diagnosis.
Hawking, however, is extremely special, since he has just recently celebrated his 73rd birthday, 50 years older than doctors predicted he would ever be. He still gives lectures at University and writes books about his theories and apparently has no plans to retire.

The film begins shortly before Hawking's diagnosis, showing him as youthful and enjoying life as a phD student. He is much like any other student, attending parties and playing sports with friends. At one particular party, he met Jane, the woman who would eventually become his wife, have three children to him, and nurse him for many years.
I think that the film portrayed their romance beautifully, and showed how the disease affected Jane as well as Stephen. Jane knew the relationship was likely to be short-lived and painful, but chose to stick by Stephen anyway and fortunately they had many more years together than expected.

Watching this film has really opened my eyes to how incredible Stephen Hawking is and how much he has been through in his life. I can't possibly commend Eddie Redmayne enough for his emotional and heartfelt performance, he definitely deserved that Oscar!
I was a sobbing mess for the majority of this film, but it was truly amazing and I urge you to watch it if you haven't already. It's one of those rare films that really changes your perspective on life.

Let me know what you thought if you've seen it!

I'll be posting again very soon
Much Love
